About Us
Hope Lutheran Church was founded as a mission congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) in 1987. Two years later the current church building was constructed and dedicated. In 1999 the members of Hope Lutheran Church voted to leave the LCMS and join the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) because of the inconsistency of belief and teaching that was common in the LCMS.
As a member congregation of the ELS, Hope Lutheran Church helps to operate Bethany Lutheran College and Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary, both located in Mankato, MN. The members of Hope Lutheran Church are also able to support, with their prayers and offerings, the mission and mercy work of the ELS in the United States and around the world.
The ELS is part of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference, which is a worldwide fellowship of Confessional Lutheran synods and congregations. In the United States the ELS is in altar and pulpit fellowship with the congregations of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).
